Assignment: Build Your Own Game

Create your own game by programming it through language. You will write a starting prompt, run the game, notice what you want to change, and improve the prompt several times. Your submission will show how the game changed as you programmed it.

Student instructions

  1. 1
    Step 1: Choose a game.
Design a game that another person could play with an AI tool. Use a class topic, a subject you care about, or another idea your teacher approves. Do not copy the Fact or Fiction prompt.
  2. 2
    Step 2: Write Version 1.
Write the starting prompt. State the goal, the rules, the inputs, and what AI should do in response.
  3. 3
    Step 3: Test Version 1.
Run the game several times. Save one sample conversation. Look for something confusing, missing, or different from what you intended.
  4. 4
    Step 4: Describe one improvement.
Write two or three sentences explaining what you want to change and what new rule or instruction could make the game work better.
  5. 5
Step 5: Write and test Version 2.
Revise the starting prompt with your new rule. Run the game again and save a sample conversation showing Version 2 in use.
  6. 6
Step 6: Describe the next improvement.
Write two or three sentences explaining what you want to improve next.
  7. 7
    Step 7: Write Version 3.
Revise the starting prompt one more time. This is your final version.

What to turn in

Version 1

Version 2

Version 3

Your submission should make the changes visible. We are looking at how you programmed the game through language, how you tested it, and how you improved it—not just at the final game.

Submitting sample conversations

Follow your teacher's instructions. You may be asked to share a conversation link from ChatGPT or Claude, or to copy and paste the conversation into your submission. Include the prompts and AI responses, and label each conversation clearly as Version 1 or Version 2.
